3 countries 4 Districts 11 Clubs Kenya Eye Care Project 2019 led by Nelson Edwards completed a successful mission held Jan 11-25. 6 doctors along with 15 volunteers joined with Kenyan Rotarians to hold 5 1/2 days of eye clinics in Kamania, Bahati, and Githioro Kenya, with a total of 1,998 people served. Along with basic eye care and glasses, many patients received medications for conditions such as glaucoma to provide continuing care throughout the year. We are happy to announce 2 key pieces of trip equipment- auto refractors- were donated, with training, to local medical practitioners adding sustainability to the project. The project also expanded to the delivery and dispensing of prosthetic hands, as well as recruiting for youth exchange. Some of our Rotarians are continuing their service to the Kenyan people by sponsoring advanced education, and others are working on a program to provide school uniforms for children from families unable to afford them, thereby enabling these children to attend school for the first time. Truly our Rotarians are people of action! |
